Housing Assistance

SILO provides information, advice, and assistance related to securing and/or retaining housing or shelter, including lists of existing accessible housing. We assist with reviewing and evaluating newspaper ads, communicating with landlords, and filling out housing support applications.

Employment and Incentives

Build or revamp your resume and interviewing skills at SILO. Learn how you can find a job, make money and continue your important benefits. There are a broad range of work incentives that can help you get back into the job market. Let's face it; you can't live on SSI or SSDI alone!

Independent Living Skills Training

While SILO is open every day for consumers, Tuesdays and Thursdays feature a full menu of informative and interactive workshops on life skills, employment, personal responsibility and independent living. Film screenings, discussions and guest speakers are posted weekly. Call 631-880-7929 to find out about the ongoing exciting weekly schedule of events.

Speakers Bureau

Representatives of the Center are available to speak at schools, other educational or professional agencies and organizations, civic and fraternal organizations, etc. regarding attitudinal, communicational and architectural accessibility, disability rights, independent living and other issues of concern to the disabled community.

Advocacy

Frustrated with the lack of access to goods and services for people with disabilities? Get involved with SILO's advocacy department and be part of the change in the community. Our advocates work with business and agencies to help them understand their responsibilities under the law. Get involved in helping to create access for all people in the community.

Assistive Technology

The staff at SILO knows that technology needs vary from person to person. Come into SILO and let us help you determine the right technology for you, where to get it, and how to finance it.

Communication

We're interested in you becoming educated, so we know you may have various communication needs. SILO provides large print, audio, sign language, non-English, or Braille interpretation.
